Couple’s Burning Man Packing Checklist & Survival Guide

Couple’s Burning Man Packing Checklist & Survival Guide

Attending Burning Man as a couple can be one of the most magical, bond-strengthening adventures of your life—or a test of your patience when exhaustion and dust set in. The secret to couple survival on the Playa? Smart shared gear, comfort upgrades, and proactive self-care.

If you and your partner are sharing a tent inside an established theme camp, this itemized Burning Man checklist covers everything you need for a comfortable dual setup.

1. Shared Sleeping & Sanctuary Setup

Your tent is your sanctuary away from 24-hour sensory overload. Make it clean, dark, and comfortable.

  • [ ] 4-to-6 Person Dome Tent: Always double the manufacturer's tent capacity! A 4-person tent gives two adults room for a double mattress and luggage.

  • [ ] Double Air Mattress or Joined Sleep System: Double-high air mattress or padded camp cots with a mattress connector.

  • [ ] Bedding & Pillows: Fitted sheet, warm double sleeping bag or heavy blankets + 2 full-sized pillows.

  • [ ] The "Dust Sheet" Hack: A lightweight flat bedsheet spread over your bedding every morning. When dust blows into your tent during the day, simply peel off the top sheet at night for clean sheets underneath!

  • [ ] Ground Tarp: Placed under your tent floor to protect against sharp rocks and dust seepage.

  • [ ] Tent Entry Mat & Shoe Bin: Leave dusty boots outside the tent zipper.

  • [ ] Hand Broom & Dustpan: Keep in your tent vestibule for quick daily sweeps.

  • [ ] Heavy Anchors: 8x Lag Screws () + fender washers + cordless impact driver.

  • [ ] Safety Covers: Pool noodles or tennis balls covering all ground lag bolts/guy-lines to prevent trips.

2. Clothes & Gear for Two

  • [ ] Day Outfits (3–4x per person): Breathable linen, cotton, kilts, sun hats, costumes.

  • [ ] Warm Night Gear (2–3x per person): Fur coats, thermals, heavy boots, beanies.

  • [ ] 4x UV-Sealed Goggles: 2 daytime tinted pairs + 2 nighttime clear pairs.

  • [ ] 4–6x Shemaghs / Face Masks: For dust storm protection.

  • [ ] Sealed Travel Clothes: 2 fresh outfits sealed in Ziplocs for the drive home.

3. The Romantic 15-Minute Nightly Foot Bath Ritual

Alkaline playa dust causes severe chemical drying known as "Playa Foot." Taking 15 minutes every night to wash your feet together is both romantic and essential for survival.

  • [ ] Collapsible Foot Wash Basin

  • [ ] 1/2 Gallon White Vinegar: Dilute 1 cup of vinegar into warm water. The mild acid neutralizes the alkaline playa dust instantly.

  • [ ] Biodegradable Soap & Pumice Stone

  • [ ] Heavy Foot Cream / Salve: Apply generously and put on fresh socks before sleep.

4. Shared Survival Hygiene & Electronics
